Yes, you will be able to access the domain name with or without the WWW in front. Many web hosting providers do now provide this capability. For example, you can access the domain name "mydomain.com" by going to "www.mydomain.com" as well as "mydomain.com".
Do you offer dial-up internet access?
No. You will need local internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site. We specialize in virtual server service, therefore we do not have to maintain hundreds of modems, enabling us to devote more time to our customers web presence needs and to enhancements that provide our hosting and server accounts with more of what is necessary for successful web endeavors.
Do you support MS Frontpage extensions?
Yes. Our Standard and Advantage hosting accounts may be ordered with or without Frontpage support. Our Value Server acount and our Win2000 Super Server both support MS Front Page 2002 extensions. Frontpage 2002 support is available for accounts currently using Frontpage 2000 at no charge, contact support via our on-line ticket system. Please be aware that once you publish with Frontpage 2002 you will overwrite your files and can no longer publish with Frontpage 98 or 2000.
Do you offer web page design services?
Yes, we do offer web page design services. A great many of our customers have little desire to spend time learning how to use web development software
and discover what works or doesn't work in various browsers.
You will find several low cost packages to get you started
quickly in our design section.
Custom development and scripting services are available should you require them.
You may also send a request to our Design Team.
We also offer ongoing site maintenance for a nominal fee should you wish us to maintain your site content.
Can I change from another type of account to FrontPage?
Yes. Both Standard and Advantage hosting may be changed to include Frontpage support. Frontpage support is standard on our Value Server account.
Can I check domain name availability?
Yes. You can check domain availability direct from our web site.
Does webtownusa.com handle domain registration?
Yes, as an approved Registration Service Provider, Webtownusa.com will register new domain names with an ICANN approved registrar for you. We register it in YOUR name. YOU are the official administration contact (and billing contact for renewals).
We do not charge for handling the registration of your domain name, however the registrar fee must be paid with your hosting order. If you have an existing domain we will fill out and send you a modify domain name template to forward to hostmaster@internic.net or other registrar.
If we require any information for completion, you will be contacted via email or phone. There is no charge for this service. Upon notification of completion of the transfer, there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their
DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site at webtownusa.com until they update their DNS. During the propagation period persons accessing your site will be going to both sites until all are eventually accessing the new site hosted by webtownusa.com. The process should be seamless.
Can I transfer an existing domain name to webtownusa.com?
Yes. Whether you place an order by telephone or via our online order form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service at the present site while waiting for Internic to complete the transfer. We will provide you with a FTP logon so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site until propagation
is complete.
How long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation.
What is the fee for domain registration ?
Our current registrar fees are $20.00 for 1 year (less for 2, 5, 10 yrs.) to register a new domain name. Domain names may be registered and renewed for one year, or longer terms. (.Biz & .Info require a 2 yr. minimum registration) New domain name registration fees must be paid at the time the domain is registered.
Does webtownusa.com limit the number of hits I can receive each month?
No. Our experience has shown that 300 to 500 MB/month is more than enough data transfer for 90 (+)% of all websites and we use it as a bench mark. Depending on the quantity and size of your files, 1000MB could support many thousands of hits per week. If your site begins to exceed several gigabytes of data transfer each month, we will contact you about upgrading so performance doesn't suffer.
How do I transfer files to my web site?
Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you have a PPP internet account and need FTP software, you will find download links for either the PC or Mac in our support area. Internet providers such as AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy may have a built-in FTP interface. An FTP tutorial is available for first time users in our support section. Webtownusa.com offers unlimited FTP access.
Will I have unlimited access to update my pages ?
You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your convenience.
Can multiple domains point to the same HTML files ?
In general, if you have more than one domain account at webtownusa.com we can point each domain address to the same HTML files. There is a fee to mirror sites.
Can I use my account for commercial purposes ?
Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become a most efficient and cost-effective means of making information, products and services available to the users of the internet community. Webtownusa.com offers secure processing capabilities FREE using SSL and PGP to provide an environment whereby payment information (such as a credit card number) or confidential information (such as a custom form) can be transmitted from web browser to web server in an encrypted mode. Look for the solid key for secure transaction liscencing.
Can I resell space within my own account ?
Yes. If you have a Value Server account you can resell space within your account. However, you will be responsible for its content and data transfer. You will only be allowed to resell subdirectories not domain accounts.
Should you wish to sell domain accounts, you must upgrade to one of our Corporate Servers. We have setup an excellent Reseller program for this purpose.
Do you accept international orders ?
Yes. We are pleased to have customers around the world. If desired, we can host non-US domain name extensions.
How long has webtownusa.com been in business ?
Webtownusa.com is owned by HSN Data Corp. which has been in business since 1991 serving hundreds of clients in achieving business solutions. Our staff consists of a trained and professional technical support team, and a top rate web development and design team.
To begin: Payment for the first quarter and setup for Standard and Advantage accounts, setup and first month only for Value Server and Win2000 Super Server accounts (3 mos. required for transfers with any waived setup). After initial startup billing: All accounts (Standard, Advantage, Value, W2k) are billed quarterly. We do not require a minimum contract beyond the initial fee. We accept Mastercard, Visa, and American Express credit cards as well as wire transfer (additional $18 fee) and checks drawn on U.S. banks or money orders.
Note: Credit Cards will be automatically billed, invoices will be emailed to accounts paying by check or wire transfer. Your account becomes overdue 5 days after the due date on the invoice. Should your account become overdue, you will receive a reminder via email that we have not received your payment. If your account becomes more than 10 days past due your service will be suspended.
If your account becomes more that 30 days past due, your data will be removed from the servers and your account will be referred to our collection agency.
Do you offer technical support to customers ?
Yes. Our On-line Ticketed Support system will provide you with a tracking number for your support request and the ability to track your support request status. We encourage our customers to contact our Support Team with questions or concerns about their web site. We are relatively quick to respond to support email around the clock (ticketed requests are handled first). If we cannot offer a solution to a concern within a reasonable time frame, we will invite you to call us or we'll call you directly.
How long does it take to set up a new account ?
Orders will be configured within 24 hours after receipt of initial payment, and
most times will be done the same day. Once an account is set up an activation
notice will be sent you via email including a userid, password, and FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately.
All server accounts (Value, NT, Corporate) will be given an IP address to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or transfer.
